Floatation Therapy Improves
Creativity and Innovation
Floatation tank therapy has positive effects on our minds. The scientific explanation of this phenomenon is that during a float, your brain produces so called ‘theta waves’ which are usually experienced just before falling asleep or during a deep meditation. This experience is usually accompanied by vivid imagery.
Endorphins are released (your body's natural opiates), and the brain starts producing creative ideas, inspirational and imaginative thoughts, and feelings. Additionally, floatation therapy increases motivation and diminishes anxiety and depression. This leaves you with an open mind to accomplish anything. In some universities, floatation tanks are used as a part of SuperLearning programs. |
Floatation tank therapy is particularly recommended for individuals working in creative industries. This includes designers, artists, architects, musicians, and many others who are using creativity in their life. The reasoning behind this, considering the above information, is that the floatation tank provides the perfect environment to promote creativity and imagination.

Your brain is made up of a left and right hemisphere which makes up who you are and how you think. When you are born, up to the age of 10, the two hemispheres work independently but with equal power perfectly balanced and in harmony.
LEFT BRAIN Your left brain thinks analytically, sequentially, logically and with an orientation in time (the objective side). RIGHT BRAIN Your right brain on the other hand tends to process information in a mostly non verbal, simultaneous, intuitive, non-linear, timeless and imagistic matter (the subjective side). |
Research has indicated that floatation tanks increase right brain function. This has been discovered by investigating the brainwaves of the two hemispheres of those who have used floatation tanks. While in a floatation tank, the left brain hemisphere is somewhat suspended due to an environment that illuminates external stimulation processing (tactile sensation).
When scientists began to study the brain they found some interesting facts. In most cases, one side of the brain is more dominate than the other. People with left side dominance are more concerned with what happens externally (out of body) and tend to ignore what is going on internally. While people with right side dominance such as artistic people, tend not to pay attention to what's going on around them; they are so inward directed they just don't notice.
In either case, if one side is very dominate over the other, you can tend to experience yourself as separated from your intuitive side or all other things and other people. In very dominate cases you can tend to feel anxious, worried, depressed, or fearful etc.
Left brain dominance is much more common, and perhaps as a result to what happens in Western culture. Left brain hemisphere dominance is powerfully reinforced by our education system. Skills at using the verbal and the analytic hemisphere are rewarded by good grades. You attribute your feelings, thoughts, and the results you're getting in life, to what's outside of you. When in fact, most of this is being generated internally. While left brain skills are rewarded by good grades and are highly valued by our culture, they are not sufficient for complete functioning and a fully rewarding life.
Logic, words and details are important, but they are only tools. They are not reality themselves, but useful symbols or means of approaching reality. To be effectively used, you need to be intuitive of the right hemisphere.

When you synchronise the two sides of the brain so they are in balance, you become calmer, more peaceful, resulting is less worries, which helps you feel better. You will feel less need for concern over the things you would normally worry about.
Regular use of a floatation tank opens up the right brain hemisphere and simply changes the left-brain hemisphere's role from dominance to one of partnership with the other hemisphere, allowing balance and harmonisation of the functions between your right and left hemispheres. It allows you to use all your mental powers that promotes your whole brain to think, which makes you more creative. It is this synchronisation of the brain, the hemispheric harmony, that increases your productivity, performance and efficiency, while promoting confidence and wholeness. All this experienced from floating. |
Virtually every religion, philosophy, psychology and healing practice, has stressed that the road to ultimate wisdom and health lies through a balancing and harmonising of the functions between the two brain hemispheres.
