Are you Feeling Tired, Stressed, Overworked, Sleep Deprived, Experiencing Joint and/or Muscle Discomfort and just need some time to UNWIND.
Then floatation therapy is for you.
The floatation tank provides an environment that will free your mind and body from all external stimulation. Your mind is left free to drift into your deepest state of relaxation possible. With your body in such a relaxed state, it provides the opportunity for the body to cleanse itself from stress related chemicals such as adrenaline, cortisol and lactic acid. At the same time, beneficial endorphins are released in the brain, which are feel-good and pain-relieving neurotransmitters.
Your body will have the chance to restore its natural powers of healing and self-regulation. As you lay back, the water’s density will cause you to float effortlessly, creating the feeling of weightlessness. As your body is perfectly supported by the solution at relaxed skin temperature, it creates a sensation of complete loss of your body’s boundaries. Many people compare the experience of being in a floatation tank to how they would imagine floating in outer space at zero gravity.
The benefits of floatation tank are quite astounding. Some are immediate, some may be more noticeable after the actual floatation session, and others may require a cumulative effect to really see and feel a difference. In order to get the most out of floatation tank, we recommend that you have at least 3-5 sessions before you make up your mind on its benefits.

WHAT IS THE FLOATATION THAN?
A floatation tank is a large enclosed bathtub, usually constructed from fiberglass. The tank is designed to eliminate all outside distractions, such as light, noise and smells. It creates an environment conducive to deep, healing relaxation. At inner outer health, we use the Apollo ELV float tank, which is made, and manufactured here in Australia.
The entry to the floatation tank is through a sliding door. You can leave the door partially or completely open. Inside, the tank is filled with sterile water, warmed to 34.5°C and is about 30cm deep. Healing epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) is added in large amounts to make the body more buoyant and to enhance the experience. Your body has no choice but to float – you cannot sink in such dense solution. It is five times more buoyant than seawater.
The Apollo ELV floatation tank has powerful underwater speaker system creating the feeling that you are floating in a sea of music, enhancing the rich dream-like quality of the experience. While you are floating in the floatation tank, your ears are below the surface of the solution, cutting out external sounds. Many people find that the gentle ambient music played through the floatation tank accelerates and intensifies the relaxation process.
Floatation therapy is also known as REST (restricted environmental stimuli therapy), sensory deprivation, and sometimes the tank is called an isolation tank, or sensory deprivation tank.
The first floatation tank was developed in 1950 by a neurophysiologist Dr John Lilly who called it ‘a hole in the universe’ – place where people can forget about physical demands of the body. He used it in order to test the effects of sensory deprivation during his training in psychoanalysis at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in Washington.
Did you know that the floatation tank was featured in the film Altered States and the tenth season of the Simpsons’ Make Room for Lisa many years ago?
Today floatation tanks are used by different people and can be found in different places, like hospitals, fitness and spa centers or professional sport training facilities. Floatation tanks are used at Harvard, Yale, Stanford and other universities to enhance learning and sport performance. Many famous sportsmen and sportswomen use the tank as a regular part of their training. The Australian Institute of Sport has been recommending tank floatation since 1983. NASA used the floatation tank for astronauts’ training. Nowadays, you do not have to be famous or rich to experience all the benefits of floating.
SO HOW DOES THE FLOATATION TANK WORK?
Although we are usually not aware of it, gravity, touch, sight and sound consume over 90% of our physical and mental energy. Inside the tank, your senses do not experience light, noise, weight or temperature. The floatation tank screens out these external physical stimuli, creating a pure state of "sensory" relaxation. Under these unique conditions your body has a chance to restore its natural powers of self-regulation, while you simply lie back and rediscover the latent abilities of a deeply relaxed mind.
When lying back in the floatation tank, you will no longer have to fight against the constant downward push of gravity, the single greatest cause of wear and tear to bones, joints and body tissue. As the muscle tension melts away, you will find yourself floating weightless and free in the floatation tank, like an astronaut in zero gravity conditions. Large areas of the brain are freed from their usual sensory workload of receiving and analysing signals from eyes, ears and skin receptors. You can achieve a much deeper level of relaxation than during a sleep. Your mind becomes clear and stress and fatigue leaves your body.
The temperature inside the floatation tank is kept at a constant 34.5° - relaxed skin temperature. As a result, the nerve endings, which cover the surface of the skin no longer, perceive any sense of separation between the skin and the silky mineral solution, which surrounds it. In the dark, weightless tranquility of the Apollo ELV floatation tank, the boundaries of your body seem to dissolve and vanish.
As you enter progressively deeper levels of relaxation, even your body seems to "disappear" from conscious awareness because of the sharp reduction in signals being transmitted through the nervous system to the brain. With no body to look after, your mind can attend to other business.
